
Around 3:18am this morning, former President Corazon Aquino passed away due to cardiac arrest. She was diagnosed to have colon cancer last March 2008 and was treated with chemotherapy in one of the hospitals in Manila. Her son said that the cancer had spread to her other organs and she was too weak to continue her chemotherapy. She died at the age of 76.
Maria Corazon Cojuangco was born on Jan. 25, 1933 in Paniqui, Manila. She was married to the late Senator Benigno Aquino, Jr. which gave her 5 children. A son, Benigno Simeon Aquino III , Maria Elena A. Cruz, Aurora Corazon A. Abellada, Victoria Eliza A. Dee, and Kristina Bernadette A. Yap. She led the people power revolution last 1986 which ended the 20-yr. regime of Ferdinand Marcos. This gave her the way to become the first female president in the Philippines and in Asia.
